The past few weeks have been interesting, to say the least. A few days of riding is always a great to waste a day.
I finally got the chance to make another 8 hour race. After the last one in January, I was looking forward to better riding and, of course, better weather. The day started foggy, but soon cleared into a beautiful, partly cloudy day with fluffy clouds you can only find in GA. (L.A. has nothing on our skies!
) Sure, it was a bit hot. It was still better than the freezing temps and ice of January.
The track started a little muddy and cleared up nice. Even though a few hours into the race, a few gnarly roots started to provide random bumps, the track held up very well! I started loosing my clutch about half way through the day. After giving the bike (and myself) a quick break every now and then, the clutch got me through the race!
I got to see some great guys I hadn’t seen in months! I also ended up pitting next to two great teams that kept up the encouragement/trash talking all day. At the end of the day, we were all pretty tired and a few of us left the dirtiest bunch of trophied I’d seen in a while. Good times.

Pit Row
A few days later, I had a chance to take the 250 out. On a nice, sunny day at the track, I apparently had a subconcious thought it would be fun to go poaching because a deer walked out in front of me on a downhill jump. Once he was on the track, he was in no hurry to move. Quick grab on the brakes and a few rough ruts to help stop, I missed the big guy… and snapped a bushing in half. After the attempt at poaching, which seemed like 5 minutes and more realistically was 5 seconds, I finished the day on a few quick trails and called it a day. The careless part of me just wanted to ride and not worry about any extra damage I could have done. Haha.
Which leads me to the next weekend - a day of almost all jumps…. So. Much. Fun.
I arrived at the park late. Probably due to some crazy reason for not getting enough sleep and poking around all morning. Anyway… I make it with about 10 minutes to get ready and the rush is on not to be late! We all know how awesome being in a hurry can be… ugh. After losing my socks, I made it just on time to get started.
My planned morning turned into a full day. We spent most of the morning jumping a few logs (read = trees, haha). After a quick lunch break, the muddy spots had cleared and we were off to the track! The next few hours were working on two smaller jumps, a tabletop, and a downhill. It was so much fun!! I think the downhill was probably my favorite of the day. Unfortunately, a “small” crash while riding has led to my beautifully swollen leg and early morning MRI later this week. Anyway… sticking to the jumps caused me to keep too busy to get to ride and hang out with a few friends, but I hope to see them again soon.
Oh yeah, and Coggins definitely gets pic of the day!
Btw, finished my last few books. Open to suggestions again!
